POMPEII

Pompeii is a city located near modern Naples in the Italian region of Campania. Pompeii was destroyed and completely buried caused by a massive volcanic eruption of mount Vesuvius spanning over two days in the year 79 AD. The eruption caused a massive cloud of ash and ember. The cloud buried Pompeii under 4 to 6 meters of ash and ember.

The city was lost for nearly 1700 years until it was accidentally rediscovered in 1749. Since the rediscovery, the excavation has reveled extraordinarily details about the life of a city at the height of the roman empire.
